Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Mr. Peter Obi and his running mate, Dr. Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed took Lagos by storm Saturday, February 11, 2023, as they campaigned vigorously in the state with large crowds of supporters thronging the different places where they visited.
The campaign, dubbed Mega City Mega Rally, however, held against the backdrop of reports and video clips of attacks by political thugs on LP members and supporters in some parts of the state as they were going to the Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) venue of the mega rally. There were pictures and video clips of injured people and destroyed cars with some of the attacked people complaining that they were also disposed of their personal belongings, especially cellular phones.
There were street parades by Mr. Obi, riding in an open roof vehicle, waving at huge crowds of supporters as he made his way slowly through the streets and at the Alaba International Market that he visited prior to the mega rally at the TBS.
The rally was also held at about the same time that an audio recording surfaced of a traditional ruler of a community in the state threatening non-indigenes of the state that they must vote for only the All Progressives Congress (APC) or face dire consequences.
The audio recording has, however, received a swift response from the Police authorities that have promised to invite the traditional ruler for questioning concerning the recording, assuring that such threats would not be countenanced in the state.
