The Management of Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company, PHEDC on Tuesday commiserated with the families of those who were electrocuted last Wednesday in Calabar as a result of the electrical accident.
Chief Operating Officer, COO, PHEDC, Engr. Kingsley Achife on behalf of the company commiserated with the families following the death of the fans.
Earlier reports said that over 30 football fans who were watching Manchester United match verses Anderlecht were killed due to an electrical spark on the 11 KV high pressure tension cable.
The management also sympathized with those who sustained various degrees of injuries during the unfortunate incident.
A statement signed by Head Corporate Communications PHED, John Onyi, reads,
“Our heartfelt condolences go to the bereaved families. May God give the families the courage to bear the loss.” We also sympathize with those who sustained injuries and wish them quick recovery.”

The COO, who expressed displeasure over the incident, has assured the community that the said feeder has been isolated to ensure that lives and property are secured, adding that an investigation team has been constituted with a view to finding out the remote and immediate causes of the accident.
Engr, Achife urged the residents to remain calm and law abiding and to accord the team the necessary support during the investigation.
He thanked the law enforcement agencies who responded quickly and ensured that the victims were taken to the Teaching Hospital.
His appreciation also goes to the Cross River State Governor, Prof. Ben Ayade, who through his deputy came to the scene of the incident and calmed the nerves of the affected community.
He equally further informed members of the public and indeed the customers, to always adhere to safety rules by not erecting any structure under PHEDC high tension lines.
It will be recalled that UNICAL 11kv feeder also snapped at Akpanden Street, Atimbo, Calabar, resulting in the death of 7 persons with 11 others injured.
Meanwhile, the corpses have been deposited in the mortuary, while the survivors are currently receiving medical attention at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital .
