The Umuokpu Obowu, New Jersey Chapter, United States recently went out on its very first Annual Retreat to the Poconos Mountains in Pennsylvania, the United States.

The retreat attended by the group’s 20-strong all-female members held last month, November and gathered all the registered members in New Jersey.

The Umuokpu Obowu is a group of Obowu-born female professionals regardless of marital status. The association is also open to new members of 21 years and above.

It was first conceived and convened by Mrs. Nkiru Onyeneho-Okoronkwo in 2010.

Presently under the leadership of Princess Eziada Caroline Ibe-Onyesonwu, Mrs. Judith Amah-Oledinmah, and Mrs. Eileen Uzosike-Nse, the group is yet in its infancy with 20 financially registered members.

The retreat, according to Ibe-Onyesonwu, provided the members an opportunity ‘to truly bond with each other.’

Commenting on the retreat, Eziada Caroline Ibe-Onyesonwu said: “The good Book tells us that our Lord approves that where two or more are gathered in His name, there also shall He be found.

“Therefore, we started with prayers and ended with mass at St. Mathews Catholic Church in Bushkill PA. Members who were able to attend include: Rev. Sr. Andrea Okafor, Mrs. Priscilla Eboh-Ibeh, Mrs. Patricia Anyanwu-Anyanwu, Dr. (Mrs.) Stella Ibe-Korieocha, Mrs. Eileen Uzosike-Nse, Mrs. Justina Onwuka-Odoemene, Lolo Maureen Ibe-Ogbuehi, and Princess Eziada Caroline Ibe-Onyesonwu.

“Other than prayers and meditations (wink-wink), we engaged in other activities like hours of glorious massage therapies; horse-back riding, zip lining, walks, R&B live music and Karaoke, and Stand-up Comedy with the celebrated Monique. We went to dinner and celebrated the birthday of our sister Eileen with champagne and dancing in one of our villas. There were long talks into the wee hours of the night while lounging around. No one wanted to sleep. We just reminisced about growing up in Obowu, the very best town in Imo State.

“We want to thank our husbands for their support (spiritual, moral, provision of goat meat, assorted drinks, taking care of the home): Our Lord Jesus Christ, Mr. Simeon Ibeh, Chief Evarestus Anyanwu (Igirigi Ndu), Architect Linus Korieocha, Mr. Sunday Nse, Chief Odoemene, Chief OBZ Ogbuehi, and Prince Cy Ibezim Onyesonwu.”

Umuokpu Obowu New Jersey is one of the many branches of the group in United States as there is a chapter in the Washington DC/Baltimore/Maryland area headed by Lolo Carol Ihekoronye-Iwu and another in the Dallas/Fortworth Metropolitan in Texas headed by Rev. Chizoba Okoro.

“I am sure there are others. Our fervent hope and desire is that this will grow into a yearly event; and that we will join together with those at home. Umuokpu Obowu has great plans for our place of birth, Obowu,” she enthused.

“All those who attended confessed that it was one of the best experiences they have had since coming to the United States. They are already planning for 2016,” she summed up.

  1. That was beautiful. This newspaper publishes things that we relate with in one way or the other. Obowu
ladies residing all over the world should start the association so that they get to know and relate with
    each other. Great pictures too.
