N14m prize money for CBN Senior Open Tennis Championship

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has earmarked the sum of N14 million for the 38th edition of the annual CBN Senior Open Tennis Championship, which will serve off June 16 to June 25, 2016.
According to the bank, the prize money for the winner in both the men and women categories is N750, 000.00 each, while the runners-up in the two categories will each smile home with N500, 000.00.
Presenting the breakdown of the prize money for various categories, Acting CBN Director, Corporate Affairs, Isaac Okoroafor, also said winners in both men and women in disabled category will respectively go home with N200, 000 each.
Okoroafor, who was represented by Mrs. Shittu Simtiki Thannda, at a press conference at the National Stadium, Lagos, Tuesday, said that the prize money for the disabled would be increase in due course.
“In line with the Corporate Social Responsibility programme of the Central Bank of Nigeria, we wish to reaffirm the bank’s desire to support and promote the game of tennis in Nigeria.
“As you are also aware, we have the CBN Junior Tennis Tournament, a development al initiative that is engineered by the bank, in collaboration with the International Tennis Academy, Lagos.
“It is open to boys and girls within the age group of 10 and 18 and serves as feeder to the senior championship,” she said.
“The CBN Senior Open Tennis Championship is the only major tournament in the calendar of Nigeria Tennis Federation (NTF) that provides a platform for the selection of talented tennis players that would represent Nigeria at the forthcoming Davis Cup qualifiers in Madagascar in July.
“As it was in the 2015 edition, the total prize money for the 2016 edition of this competition is N14 million,” she said.
