Police ban religious processions in Sokoto

Sokoto State police command has banned indefinitely all forms of processions by all religious groups across the 23 local government areas of the state.

This is contained in a statement signed by the Spokesman of the state Police Command, El-Mustapha Sani, in Sokoto, Friday.

“The action is to maintain law and order in the state and the country, in view of the recent obnoxious happenings in some parts of Nigeria. This is also in order not to allow hoodlums to hijack such processions by any religious groups.

“Subsequently, all members of the general public are hereby advised not to flout the ban in their own interest and the interest of the peace of the state,” it said.

The statement further urged members of the public to go about their lawful activities .

It assured that the police and other security agencies in the state were ready to protect the lives and property of all law abiding residents of the state.
