Police bursts national identity card scam, arrests 2 bank staff, 3 others

Police in Sokoto has arrested five persons for allegedly printing and issuing fake National Identity Management Commission, NIMC, national identity card slips to some unsuspecting Nigerians.

The scam blew open when one of the victims innocently went to  the NIMC office for issuance of the main card.
The two bank staff were alleged to have been in the business of assisting customers of the bank to produce the temporary NIMC slips to open bank accounts with the affected bank.
Briefing Journalists on the arrest, the Public Relations Officer of the Sokoto State Police Command, ASP Cordillia Nwawe said police investigation revealed that the suspects produce fake NIMC slips and cards at a Business center adding that the owner of the business centre was one of those arrested.
In another development, the Sokoto State command of the Police force also arrested five persons suspected to have robbed five passengers of the sum of N289, 720, four GSM handsets and clothing materials at gun point.
The passengers were said to have been travelling from Niger Republic to Sokoto when they were attacked near Boto village in Gudu local government Area of Sokoto state.
The five robbery suspects paraded before journalists were Mohammed Zarno, Usman Abdullahi, Mohammed Bello, Audu Gamde Kwai and Abdullahi Abubakar.
Nwawe explained that Police was making efforts to recover the firearms used during  the operation as well as arrest the remaining suspects who had fled to Niger Republic.
