Bayelsa state Police Command, Wednesday, paraded seven suspected notorious cable vandals who specialized in removing Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company PHEDC cables in the state.
Police said the seven vandals were arrested alongside the Chief Security Officer (CSO) of ITB, a contracting firm to the 500-bed hospital owned by the state government.
This is as the Commissioner of Police, Nasiru Disi Oki warned young girls in the state to desist from moving late at night as they may fall victims of rape by gangsters.
Parading the suspects alongside a man who specialized in stealing tricycles, also known as Keke, Mr. Disi Oki said the stolen cables were valued at several millions of Naira.
He said the suspects were arrested on Sunday evening along Swali market road while loading the cables onto a vehicle for sale
The commissioner who lamented that the acts of stealing tricycles has become rampant in the state, said he would ensure that the act along with the vandalization of PHEDC cables would be reduced drastically and prosecute suspects accordingly.
“This is a warning to those murderers, kidnappers, sea pirates because we will not tolerate such crimes to take place any longer in the state”
The commissioner also advised community leaders in the state to always assist the police in ensuring a proper community policing in the state ahead of the 2016 governorship election so as to reduce crimes and criminalities.
“Crimes are inevitable in the society, we are here not to sleep so that Bayelsans can sleep, so I have told my men not to sleep, because if the police sleeps, Bayelsans would not sleep,” Oki said
