The quiet village of Ikot Inyang in Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State was on Sunday thrown into mourning as men of the Nigeria Police Force reportedly beat to death a man identified as Emmanuel Itai.
The deceased, it was gathered, buried his father on Saturday February 11, 2023, in Ikot Inyang village. The following day (Sunday), there was a disagreement between the now deceased man and his elder brother, that resulted in the latter inviting Police personnel to arrest his brother.
The Policemen allegedly pounced on Emmanuel Itai and eyewitness testimony say he was beaten by the Police officials until he gave up the ghost.
News of the incident spread quickly and soon the Police Station premises was filled with angry villagers asking questions about the incident that led to the death of Emmanuel Itai.
As of the time of this report, the Nigeria Police Force had not issued a statement on the incident with calls to the mobile line of Macdon Odiko, the command’s PRO unanswered.
