No fewer than 30 people were killed, while 78 others were injured when two female suicide bombers detonated an Improvised Explosive Device (IEDs) at the Internally Displaced Persons, IDP, Camp in Dikwa, the headquarters of Dikwa local government area of Borno State.
Confirming the incident, the chairman, Borno State Emergency Management Agency, Engr. Ahmed Satomi, who revealed these figures to newsmen Wednesday said the incident occurred at the camp established in the recently liberated Dikwa at about 6:30am on Tuesday.
Satomi said two female bombers stormed the IDPs camp and blew themselves up in the midst of the crowd of displaced persons, killing over 30 persons and injuring 78 others.
Satomi, who spoke to newsmen on phone said: “As I am speaking to you I am at the State Specialist Hospital Maiduguri where those injured by two female bombers were brought for treatment.
“It was really sad the injured were brought in today (Wednesday) because of the distance of Dikwa from here,” the ESMA chairman stated.
He said those killed were buried on Tuesday in the town, stressing that the military has beefed up security around the town.
Dikwa is 90 kilometers away from Maiduguri, the Borno state Capital, a town which was recently reclaimed from insurgents and has the largest mega camp in the state which has over 70,000 IDPs.
