President Trump pardons dozens of allies linked to 2020 election cases

United States President Donald Trump has granted pardons to a long list of his political allies accused of trying to overturn the 2020 presidential election, according to the Department of Justice’s Pardon Attorney, Ed Martin.

The list, released by Martin on X late Sunday, includes well-known figures such as Trump’s former lawyer Rudy Giuliani, attorney Sidney Powell, and former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, among many others.

“This proclamation ends a grave national injustice perpetrated upon the American people following the 2020 Presidential Election and continues the process of national reconciliation,” the document stated. It was dated 7 November and appeared to bear the president’s signature.

The proclamation grants a “full, complete, and unconditional pardon” to those named, including several of Trump’s co-defendants charged in Georgia for alleged efforts to overturn the election results. However, the document clearly states that the pardon does not apply to President Trump himself.

Presidential pardons only cover federal crimes and do not affect state or local charges.

Last week, President Trump also granted clemency to a retired New York City police officer convicted in 2023 for spying on a New Jersey family on behalf of the Chinese government. In addition, he pardoned former baseball star Darryl Strawberry for a 1995 tax evasion offence.
