We must reclaim Christopher Kolade’s values to rebuild Nigeria – Peter Obi

Mr. Peter Obi

Mr. Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 election, has said that the death of elder statesman, Dr. Christopher Kolade, “at a time when our nation is in dire need of honest and principled leadership, … reminds us of the values we must reclaim to rebuild Nigeria.”

Mr. Obi, a former Governor of Anambra State, said this in a tribute to the former diplomat, boardroom czar and broadcaster who passed on aged 92, on Wednesday, October 8, 2025.

In an X (formerly Twitter) post, Mr. Obi said he was “deeply saddened” by the demise of Dr. Kolade, who he described as “a distinguished elder statesman, diplomat, and exemplary public servant whose life embodied integrity, discipline, and ethical leadership.”

Stressing that Chief Kolade “was one of Nigeria’s finest moral voices – a man who lived and led with conscience, truth, and commitment to the common good,” Obi, in the tribute titled “A Man of Integrity takes his final bow,” noted that the former Nigerian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, “through his remarkable service in business and diplomacy, (he) set enduring standards of professionalism and character that continue to inspire generations.”

He also extended his “deepest condolences” to the family of the one-time Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Cadbury Nigeria Plc, former Director General of Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation and highly regarded academic, as well as to his colleagues, “and all Nigerians who mourn this great loss,” and prayed God to grant the departed eternal rest and comfort all who grieve him.
