Retiring Police AIG advises officers against unhealthy practices

Inspector General of Police Mr. Ibrahim Idris
Officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), have been advised against unhealthy practices that ultimately lead to dismissal and pre-mature retirement from the force.
Mr Isaac Eke, an Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of police, zone 5, who pulled out from the service on Monday, handed down this advice during the pull-out parade at the. Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin.
The AIG who enlisted into the NPF in 1984, said success in the police is borne out of foundational key values of a Spartan lifestyle, self contentment, discipline, belief in God and dedication to duty.
He said every police man must see himself as the Force’s image maker even though the Force has police officers appointed as Public Relations Officers (PPROs).
Eke noted that this would serve as mitigation against corrupt tendencies and temptation, as no policeman of whatever rank is immune to temptation.
“Although I am leaving the Force, but my love and expectation for the NPF live on; my wish for the NPF is for it to grow and develop with the dynamics of change and law enforcement evolution in the global space.
“The ability for self-reinvention will not only ensure the survival of the police Force, it will inexorably take it to the next level where citizens across board derive maximum service satisfaction from a people-oriented NPF that leverages on international best practices, sound knowledge, intelligence and cutting edge technology,” he stated.
Eke also raised the issue of training, motivation and logistics need of the Force that would enable its personnel perform their duty optically and also shun corruption.
According to him, “Personnel training, motivation and logistics in the Force needs an urgent attention to enable officers and men of the Force to put in their best as the consensus the world over suggest, the NPF is adjudged one of the best police establishments on the planet.”
Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo, described Eke as a refined officer who served the Force to the best of his ability.
Represented at the occasion by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Julius Ihonvbere, Oshiomhole said Eke’s indelible record is one that needed to be emulated by officers and men of the Force.
“Eke is a refined officer whose knack for detail is unparalleled and he is always passionate about the welfare of his men and also has great respect for constituted authority.
“We will remember him as one officer who once came to Edo and whose shoe will be difficult to fill.
“There is no doubt that he will continue to provide that quality leadership in whatever capacity or position he finds himself in future,” he said.
It would be recalled that AIG Eke, who enlisted in the Force in 1984, had as his course mate, Mr Ibrahim Idris, the present Inspector General of Police.
