
Wife of the Vice President, Mrs Dolapo Osinbanjo, alongside wives of the Service Chiefs, including the Police, under the auspices of the Defence Officers and Police Officers Wives group, has represented relief materials to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and widows of soldiers who lost their lives in the war against insurgency in the North-east.
Leading the group to Maiduguri, in Borno State, Mrs Osinbanjo said she was in the state in solidarity with the wives of the security chiefs to assist the IDPs and the widows of soldiers who lost their lives to restore peace in the north-east.
While commending the efforts of the service chiefs, the Borno State government, NEMA and SEMA for catering for the IDPs, Mrs Osinbajo prayed for the speedy restoration of peace back to the state and Northeast in general.
She said ”people of Borno are courageous, as they defy any threat to their lives, they open their shops and businesses, this shows that they have hope that everything will soon be okay and Nigeria and Nigerians will certainly defeat insurgency.”
In her welcome address, wifes of the Borno state Governor, Hajiya Nanah Kashim Shettima commended the wife of the Vice President and the wives of the security chiefs for the gesture, saying that it will help in a long way in alleviating the sufferings of the IDPs, adding that it was ‘not just the quality or quantity of the relief materials that matter but the sprit behind it.’
While addressing the widows of deceased soldiers, wife of the Chief of Defence Staff, Mrs Omololaye Olanisakin who led the delegation of the Wives of the Security Chiefs, said they will not rest until they have ‘forced their husbands to address the challenges of the widows.’
She said “we are here to show our love and concern to you, we will keep on disturbing our husbands until they we are sure you are comfortable.’
Responding on behalf of the widows, Mrs Mary Daniel thanked the delegation for the visit and urged them to look into their challenges such as BVN policy of banks, as they cannot access the salaries of their late husbands and their children are being sent out of school.
