An online newspaper, Fridabs Solacebase Communication in collaboration with Nigeria Media Innovation Program (NAMIP) has trained students of Bayero University Kano (BUK) on Campus Journalism.
The One-day training held in the Faculty of Communication, BUK, was designed to teach the students practical Journalism.
The training had the theme: “Blending the gown with the town: Raising A Generation of Media Professionals.”
Addressing participants, Mallan Abdulalteef Abubakar-Jos, Editor-in-Chief of Solacebase online newspaper, said the training was aimed at training young journalists and catching them young for accountability and good governance.
“We are conducting this training with the support of NAMIP to acquaint the students with the requisite expertise on how to report activities within the university community” he said.
Abubakar-Jos urged the participants to pay attention to the training and make adequate use of the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) which was the focus of the training to enhance their investigative reporting skills.
According to him, the participants were trained on the core of campus journalism and new media, storytelling and reporting strategies and fact checking aimed at having a bright future in journalism practice.
Earlier, the Deputy Dean, Faculty of Communication BUK, Dr Gambo Nababa, said the training was very timely.
Nababa urged the participants to make adequate use of the experience acquired during the training and step down the experience to their colleagues who were not opportuned to attend.
He commended the resource persons for bringing the initiative to the Faculty of Communication students.
NAN reports that the paper presentations discussed during the training include, “Investigative reporting: A practical approach to becoming a mouthpiece,” “Data and Digital Security for investigative journalists” and “Ethics, Code of Conduct for Campus Reporters.”
