Prominent politicians, especially, state and federal lawmakers, were conspicuously absent during a meeting called by Gombe South Unity Forum to unify the political direction of the zone as the 2019 election draws near.
The Summit was held at Molta Amazing Grace Academy, Yola Road, Billiri, Billiri LGA.
Newly inaugurated Chairman of the Elders Forum, Ambassador Saidu Mohammed Fawu, while addressing the press after the meeting lamented what the elders described as the dismal performance of their representatives at both the State and Federal legislative Chambers.
Ambassador Fawu, a former CBN Director carpeted current and past Senators, House of Representatives Members and State Legislators for failing to bring to the front burner issues relating to the growth and development of four Local Government Areas that make up Gombe South. These are, Balanga, Billiri, Kaltungo and Shongom.
According to him, “majority of our legislators fall into the category of politicians who want to redeem the money they spent during elections, as such, they loose touch with their constituents.
“This kind of Representation will continue to happen unless we call a spade, a spade, and elect competent people on merit that can withstand other lawmakers and present bills and motions that will uplift Gombe South”, he lamented.
Earlier during the summit, two papers were presented by Professor Salibu B James of the University of Maiduguri on the topic ‘Tangale/Waja (Gombe South) Unity and Peaceful Coexistence: The Journey So Far’, while Barrister Ladan Babakodong, an Abuja based legal practitioner presented his paper titled ‘Unite or Perish’.
