Super Eagles defender slams Sokoto Government over shabby treatment of protesting Sokoto United players

30-year-old Nigeria Super Eagles defender, Shehu Abdullahi, has slammed the Sokoto State Government for the shabby treatment handed to Sokoto United FC players who were at the Government House to protest their five months’ unpaid salaries.

On his verified Facebook page, Shehu Abdullahi condemned the use of ‘area boys’ to throw out the players despite their valid concerns as a sign that the government is not interested in sports and youths’ development.

“I am saddened by the situation our Sokoto United players found themselves when they went to state house today,” the statement translated in English read.

“A group of players went to government house to protest over owed five months’ salary, surprisingly, the government used area boys to throw our players away and used bad words against them that are not good in our upbringing.

“This shows that the government of Sokoto has no plans to bring development in sports and youths in our state.

“In the end, we will not give up, we will continue to join all the youth to see to a lasting change,” Shehu Abdullahi concluded.

The Sokoto-born Nigeria International is currently in the State following the termination of his contract at Bulgarian first division side Levski Sofia.

Sokoto United FC are playing in the Nigeria National League and have endured a poor start to the 2022/2023 season with two points from three games for occupy the second from the bottom position in Group A4.

Shehu Abdullahi’s comments have attracted attention to the plight of Sokoto United FC players, with the NNL board expected to intervene.
