Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has named a new Secretary to the State Government (SSG) and a new Chief of Staff at Government House, Port Harcourt.
In a statement on Thursday, the governor announced the appointment of Dr Dagogo S.A. Wokoma as the new SSG, while Barrister Sunny Ewule was named Chief of Staff. Both appointments take immediate effect.
The statement, signed by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Onwuka Nzeshi, confirmed that the new officials will be sworn in at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday at the Executive Council Chamber of Government House.
No reasons were given for the removal of the previous office holders. The new SSG takes over from Mr Benibo Anabraba, and the new Chief of Staff replaces Edison Ehie. Ehie’s role had been under speculation following recent political tensions in the state.
Observers link the new appointments to the reconciliation between Governor Fubara and his former political ally, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike. The peace followed President Bola Tinubu’s intervention, which ended plans to impeach Fubara and his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Odu.
Earlier this year, Governor Fubara dissolved his cabinet and relieved all his Special Advisers, signalling a reshuffle of key positions in the state administration.
