DENNIS UDOMA, Uyo
Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State has said that he would settle down to the business of developing the state now that the legal battle concerning his governorship election is over.
He gave the assurance in Uyo on Wednesday, during the special inter-denominational thanksgiving service to celebrate his affirmation as governor of the state by the Supreme Court.
Now that the legal battle is over, the Governor said, “I will settle down for the real business of governance by delivering the dividends of democracy to the people through the initiation of lives-touching projects.”
Udom, who was beaming with smiles and was full of excitement through out the service, recalled that, before the judgment the state was inundated with propaganda deliberately orchestrated by the opposition which did everything to seize the State by force.
The governor commended the Judiciary for dispensing justice without fear or favour and called on the opposition to join hands with him in rebuilding the state.
Gov. Emmanuel recalled how the Presiding Bishop of the Living Faith Church Worldwide, Bishop David Oyedepo foretold his victory. According to him, “My spiritual father told me to go ahead and fix this day for the thanksgiving. “He told me, you can go ahead and fix your thanksgiving, but the day should not be on a Sunday so that I should also be there.”
He thanked the clergy in the state, around the country and beyond for standing by him in prayers during the battle, assuring that he would remain indebted to them and to God.
Acting National Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Uche Secondus in his goodwill message expressed optimism that, no matter the current travails, the party would bounce back in 2019.
He noted that, with the present economic downturn, especially with the exchange rate dropping to N313 to $1 Dollar, PDP would return in full force in future.
The PDP boss called on Nigerians to brace up for hard times under the All Progressives Congress, APC, assuring that PDP will return to fix the problems.
Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti state urged his counterparts from the Niger-Delta to work towards reclaiming the inheritance of the party in future elections.
Governors Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia, Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu States all graced the occasion.
Others who attended were immediate past Governor Gabriel Suswam of Benue State, Mr. Peter Obi of Anambra State and Senator Godswill Akpabio, the immediate past governor of Akwa Ibom state and Minority Leader of the Senate.
