The 3,242 newly admitted students of the Gombe State University have been warned to desist from cultism and other anti-social vices or find their way out of the institution.
The Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Ibrahim Umar, who gave the warning during the 12th matriculation ceremony of the school, stated that the easiest way to get expelled from the institution was to be involved in examination misconduct, drug abuse, indecent dressing, and above all, cultism, which the institution has zero tolerance for.
He called on Nigerian students to be more serious with their academics in order to be able to compete favourably with others outside the country, considering the stiff competition for livelihood in the country
He particularly told the recently matriculated ones that, “the University will not tolerate indiscipline, therefore you must dress decently, you must avoid drugs, and you must avoid cultism or clandestine activities inimical to the society.”
He also called on them to imbibe tolerance which is the hallmark of intellectuals and leaders that they would soon become. “In this regard, you must understand and stay with people of different backgrounds and religious inclinations because we are training you to be intellectuals and leaders of tomorrow, not myopic,” he admonished. A total of 3,242 students out of the over 9,000 that applied for GSU admission took the matriculation oath into the six faculties of the institution. Professor Umar said the number of admitted candidates made Gombe State University one of the highest admitting institutions among its peers and that this is due to improved infrastructure that had been provided.
