Why Tinubu could lose 2027 election like Jonathan – Northern Elder
A northern elder, Alhaji Dabo Sambo, has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to quickly deal with rising insecurity and bandit attacks in northern Nigeria.
He warned that if Tinubu does not take strong action, he could lose the 2027 election—just like former President Goodluck Jonathan lost in 2015 due to similar issues.
Speaking to journalists, Sambo said that the biggest problem in Nigeria right now is insecurity. He noted that people’s lives and property are constantly at risk.
He reminded the president that protecting citizens is a key duty of any government. Failing to do so, he said, will cost Tinubu politically.
“If President Tinubu doesn’t solve the security problems, he won’t win in 2027,” Sambo warned. He compared the current situation to Jonathan’s defeat, which he said was also caused, largely, by insecurity.
Sambo added, “The days when politicians hand out noodles and salt during campaigns are over. People now want safety and food. Without those, they won’t vote.”
He said the North-West and North-East, where over 60% of Nigeria’s food is grown, are being destroyed by bandits and kidnappers. Because of this, farmers have left their land, food production has dropped, and prices have gone up.
“There’s not enough food in Nigeria and people are hungry,” Sambo said. He blamed this partly on the insecurity in farming areas.
He also mentioned the wider impact of the security situation on the economy, including the falling value of the Naira, high transport costs, and inflation. These, he said, are eating into the savings of ordinary Nigerians.
Sambo urged Tinubu to take serious action within six months to improve security and help farmers return to their farms within a year.
If not, he warned, Tinubu might face the same political defeat that Jonathan did in 2015.
