Tinubu tells Nigerians what he has agreed with Trump

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has addressed Nigerians following a phone conversation with United States President Donald Trump on recent diplomatic tensions between both countries.
In his nationwide address on Friday, November 7, 2025, President Tinubu described the discussion with the US President as “constructive and candid,” noting that both leaders agreed on prioritising peace, unity, and mutual respect.
“We agreed that our shared priority is peace over conflict, hope over fear, and unity over division,” Tinubu said. “Both sides will take the necessary time to address the concerns that have been raised, which we acknowledge are genuine.”
He reaffirmed his government’s commitment to protecting every Nigerian citizen and ensuring national security remains the cornerstone of state policy.
“Under my leadership, the Government of Nigeria, in collaboration with the United States, will use our existing security cooperation to prevent any recurrence of incidents that threaten individuals based on faith, origin, or other rights guaranteed by our Constitution,” he stated.
The President assured Nigerians that visible steps would soon follow the agreement, signalling a “decisive shift beyond unfulfilled promises of the past.” He urged citizens to continue their lawful activities confidently, knowing that the country’s security agencies are ready to maintain peace across the federation.
Tinubu also acknowledged public frustration over past government shortcomings, describing them as “legitimate expressions of public concern” that his administration has taken as lessons in accountability.
He further noted that both he and President Trump had reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the diplomatic relationship between Nigeria and the United States.
“No Nigerian should ever feel ashamed of their citizenship,” Tinubu said. “We remain resolute in upholding the rights and dignity of every citizen, which lie at the heart of our union.”
He ended his address by urging Nigerians to hold firm to the national motto — “Unity and Faith, Peace and Progress” — and expressed gratitude to all who contributed to achieving mutual understanding and cooperation.
“God bless you all, and God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” Tinubu concluded.
