A seasoned banker and politician, Mr. Emem Almond Bob is among six commissioner-nominees submitted to the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly for clearance by Governor Udom Emmanuel.
Bob hails from Onna Local Government Area of the State, same as Governor Emmanuel and, has held top managerial positions in different banks since the beginning of his career almost two decades ago.
The other nominees are Dr. Bassey B. Okon from Itu, Mr. Offiong S. Offor, Ini Local Government Area, Enefiok Isaac, Ikot Ekpene; Capt. Iniobong Ekong (Rtd), Nsit Ubium and Engr. Camillus Essien Umoh, Essien Udim LGA.
The submission of the names of the nominees follows the resignation of the Commissioner for Economic Development and Ibom Deep Seaport, Mr. Akan Okon and Commissioner for Labour and Manpower Development, Pst. Sunny Ibuot from Governor Emmanuel’s administration.
The Speaker, Hon. Aniekan Bassey has referred the list to the House Committee on Judiciary, Justice, Human Rights and Public Petitions for further legislative action. The report is expected back to the House on Wednesday.
About six functionaries of government had either resigned or been relieved of their posts in the past three weeks.
Analysts say the development is not unconnected with the struggle for the soul of Akwa Ibom come 2023.
