U-20 AFCON: Nigeria defeat Mozambique to reach Quater-final

Nigeria’s U-20 male team the Flying Eagles on Saturday evening secured a 2-0 win over Mozambique to seal a place in the quarter-final of the Africa U-20 Cup of Nations.

I their last group game of the ongoing tournament in Egypt, the Ladan Bosso tutored Flying Eagles were superb in all departments and triumphed following two first half goals at the Suez Canal Stadium in Ismaila.

For the first, just after the half-hour mark. Mahanaim FC winger Rilwan Haliru Sarki played a ball into the feet of Samson Lawal, and the midfielder shifted the ball onto his right foot before drilling a shot into the bottom far corner from 20 yards out.

The Flying Eagles doubled their advantage just before half-time through FC Cartagena winger Ibrahim Muhammad Beji. The youngster received a pass out wide from Man-of-the-match Solomon Agbalaka before turning inwards and curling a stunning effort into the top corner for 2-0 at the break.

In the second half, the Ladan Bosso-tutored Nigerian boys took foot off the pedal in the knowledge they were going through to the next round with a 2-0 victory.

The U-20 Eagles were brave in defence and held on for a vital win to book their place in the quarterfinals of the U-20 AFCON as Group A runners-up.

In the other group A game, Senegal smashed 4-goals past sorry hosts Egypt to maintain their perfect record and finish as group leaders.
