UNILAG Alumni Abuja branch plans maiden webinar lecture

The University of Lagos Alumni Association, FCT Branch, is set to host its first ever Alumni Week featuring a series of impactful activities from Monday, January 27.

Barrister Chuks Akamadu, Social Secretary of the Association, who disclosed this in a press statement, said the week-long activities will culminate in the inauguration of the branch’s new Executive Committee who will serve from 2025 to 2027.

He said the activities will kick off on Monday, January 27, with a brief ceremony featuring the donation of learning aids and welfare package to the FCT School for Blind Children in Jabi.

He said this will be followed by tree-planting to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Abuja branch slated for the National Park Service Headquarters, near the Abuja City Gate.

Barr. Akamadu said later on Tuesday, the FCT Branch will host a National Webinar Lecture on the theme: “Digital Innovations and the Future of Learning in Nigeria.”

The webinar will feature Senator Shuaib Afolabi Salisu, Chairman of the Senate Committee on ICT and Cybersecurity, as the guest speaker.

The Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa is expected to grace the event as the Special Guest of Honour, while the National President of the UNILAG Alumni Association, Engr. (Dr.) IfeOluwa Oyedele, will chair the session.

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Prof. Folasade T. Ogunsola, and a former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Chief Kanu Agabi (SAN), will be the guest of honour and grand host, respectively.

On Wednesday, January 29, a novelty football match between the UNILAG Alumni (Akoka United) and Great Ife Alumni will take place at the Area 3 sporting field in Abuja.

The grand finale of the Alumni Week will be held on Thursday, January 30, with the presentation of the maiden edition of The Akokite magazine and the inauguration of the new Executive Committee.

Speaking on the event, Aliu Akoshile, Chairman of the UNILAG Alumni Association, Abuja Branch expressed excitement over the lineup of activities, emphasizing that the week is aimed at fostering unity, community service, and intellectual growth among members.

Akoshile, who is the publisher and Editor-in-Chief of NatureNews online/digital newspaper, said the maiden FCT Alumni Week promises to strengthen the bond among members while promoting the values and ideals of their alma mater, the University of Lagos.
