The Public Affairs Officer of the U.S. Consulate, Mr Stephen Ibeli, on Wednesday donated 224 books, worth US$24,000, to Kola – Daisi University (KDU), Ibadan.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that donation took place when the U S. Official paid an official visit to the University.

Ibeli said this was due to the Consulate’ s belief in investing in people and educational development.

Ibeli, in his speech, urged the students of the University to read their books in order to improve their knowledge and capacity and make proper use of the books donated to the School.

He said, ”the Consulate promises to continue investing in education, people, We are happy to be here in this University, they are wonderful partner. We looked for a way to help, and one of the ways is to work with the university to identify their needs which are books.

”We love to invest in people, we want to invest in education, we want to invest in development and we want to also invest in the future and we felt that books is the best approach in which to partner with the University.

”The Faculties in Kola-Daisi University identified which books they needed and we ordered them – 224 books which cost about US$24,000.

”Many of these books are very difficult to find in Nigeria. We were able to use our diplomatic resources and diplomatic permission to bring these books to this country in a much more faster way,” Ibeli said.

He said that the Consulate hopes to continue this wonderful partnership with the University.

Responding, Prof. Adebisi Olatunbosun, Vice-Chancellor of the university, said the donation is a welcome development, saying the university is excited about the donation, the supply is need-based. It will promote research profile and academic activities of the school.

He urged other people and institutions to emulate the gesture of the US Consulate.

Other people at the events were High Chief Abiodun Kola–Daisi, member of the school’s board of trustees.
