The Obio-Akpor local government council has ordered the Federal Anti-Robbery Squad(F-SARS) to vacate the property it is occupying at present as its headquarters in Rivers State.

This is coming on the heels of accusations by the state governor, Nyesom Wike and the Rivers state chapter of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that the F-SARS commander, Akin Fakorede, is working for the interest of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a letter of quit notice signed by the council’s legal adviser, Victor Wokem, which was made available to journalists in Port Harcourt, the council gave the police tactical unit up till November 30, 2017, to leave the property, which is within the premises of the Obio-Akpor International market at Rukpokwu.
The letter which was addressed to the F-SARS commander and copied to the Rivers state governor, the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris and the Rivers state commissioner of Police, Zaki Ahmed, stated that the council wants to take possession of the SARS office in order to carry out renovation work in preparation for the use of the facility for its original purpose.

Meanwhile, the F-SARS commander has indicated that the police unit would not leave, insisting that the property does not belong to Obio-Akpor local government council but the Police.

A statement signed by the commander, noted that the facility was built and handed over to SARS by the Rivers state government in 2012.
The statement advised the council to stop claiming it.
