
Warri Wolves have been crowned champions of the 2024/2025 Nigeria National League (NNL) season after a thrilling 3-2 victory over Wikki Tourists in the Super 8 final held at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba on Saturday.
Coach Napoleon Aloma’s side made a strong start, racing to a 3-0 lead within the first 25 minutes. However, they had to dig deep to hold off a determined comeback from Wikki Tourists.
Yusuf Abdullateef opened the scoring for Warri Wolves in the 7th minute, before turning provider for Igbunu Evwierhurhoma who netted the second nine minutes later.
Joshua Shemaye extended the lead with a fine strike in the 25th minute, putting the Seasiders firmly in control.
Wikki Tourists responded with resilience, as Mamuda Aliyu pulled one back ten minutes before half-time. The Bauchi-based side further reduced the deficit through Wonderson Yakubu in the 59th minute, setting up a tense finale.
Despite Wikki’s fightback, Warri Wolves held on to secure the title and cap off a remarkable season that also saw them gain promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
The win marks a triumphant return to the top flight for the Delta State club, who now look ahead to the challenges of the NPFL with renewed confidence.
