The management of Dangote Refinery in Lagos, Nigeria say that they have “swiftly contained a minor fire” incident that occurred at their facility.
A statement by Anthony Chiejina, Group Chief Branding & Communications Officer, Dangote Industries Limited, said that the fire occured at the effluent (wastewater) treatment plant (ETP).
According to him, “there is no cause for alarm as the refinery is operating and there is no recorded injury or body harm to any of our staff on duty.”
Though the cause of the fire was not stated and sabotage was not insinuated, it can be recalled that the President of the Dangote Group, owners of the mega refinery, Alhaji Aliko Dangote and and Vice President, Oil and Gas at Dangote Industries Limited (DIL), Devakumar Edwin, have recently, on different platforms, lamented that some interests may be unhappy that the biggest refinery in the world has started operating in Nigeria.
