The Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria (APWEN) recently organized an enlightenment and empowerment programme with the theme “Invent It Build It: Inspiring the Girl Child to take up the Sciences with the View to Pursuing Careers in Engineering.”

The APWEN held the Invent It Build It programme at St. Peter Claver Nursery & Primary School Oke Itesi, Isale Ake, Abeokuta, Ogun State in partnership with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC.

The Guest Speaker at the event was Engr. (Mrs.) Idiat Amusu, FNSE, and scholarships were awarded to 10 students of Ogun State origin from primary to university level. One of the scholarship recipients was a 9 year old orphan. The scholarship programme is named Engr. Idiat Amusu Engineering Scholarship for Girls.

A foundation laying ceremony was also done for the construction of an ultra modern Science and Technology Laboratory. The project is named Engr Adekunle Olumuyiwa Mokuolu Science and Technology Laboratory.

Dignitaries that attended the event include His Royal Highness Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo IV, the Alake of Egbaland, the COO NNPC Ventures, Dr. Babatunde Adeniran FNGS (representing GMD NNPC, Dr Maikanti Baru); the President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers; Engr. Adekunle Mokuolu, FNSE.

  1. This is incredible, highly deserving and worthy of commendation. Nigeria’s education sector needs a super boost for it to assume it’s place in national development.
