A patron of Rangers International FC, Dr Eddie Mbadiwe, says the Teranga Lions of Senegal’s 2 – 1 defeat of Poland has renewed the hope of Africa in the ongoing World Cup.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Senegalese made Africans proud on Tuesday with their victory at the Spartak Stadium in Moscow in their opening Group H game.

Mbadiwe, a football enthusiast, told NAN in Enugu that Senegal had wiped away the tears of Africans currently watching the fiesta.

He noted that he had earlier predicted that Senegal would be one of the Africa’s representatives that would do well in Russia.

“You see that they played with a winning spirit from the start of the game to the end.

“They mounted enormous winning pressure on the Poles and took control of the ball in the greater part of the game.

“They were very determined. It paid off for the team, Senegal and the entire African continent,’’ he said.

According to him, Nigeria’s Super Eagles needed to change their mindset and put up a good fight in their next match against Iceland.

“Super Eagles need to get into their next game with the winning mentality displayed openly for the opponent to see and be cowed as well,’’ Mbadiwe, who is a football philanthropist said.

NAN recalls that the Africans at the World Cup in Russia have been wearing forlorn faces after four of their five teams lost before now.

The Senegalese gave signs of making the difference by holding their own before the 44,190 crowd who were witnessing a match fought from end to end to the last minute of play.
