One hundred civil servants of Enugu State on grade levels 01 – 10 have won one bedroom flat each worth three million, one hundred and fifty thousand naira (each) of the 100 flats purchased from a private developer, Elim Estate by state government under its housing equity share contribution scheme for public servants.
The beneficiaries from the 17 local government areas of the state won their houses in an open and transparent balloting witnessed by Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, top government officials and civil servants in the state at Michael Okpara Square, Enugu.
Seventy-five beneficiaries won their houses under local government balloting while 25 of them won theirs under zonal balloting.
It would be recalled that the state government had earlier paid her 30% equity share of the cost of the house while each beneficiary is expected to pay 70% contribution to be spread for twenty years.
Governor Ugwuanyi latter handed the keys to the houses to the beneficiaries amidst jubilation from the beneficiaries and their well wishers and indeed the entire people of Enugu State present.
The governor thereafter at the Okpara Square presented 18 Toyota Hilux vehicles to security agencies in the state, the army, the police, civil defence, state security services and the Airforce. One vehicle was also handed over the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA).
Governor Ugwuanyi also distributed 20 tractors to the 17 local government areas in the state to enhance agricultural development in the state.
In a speech after all the presentation Governor Ugwuanyi recalled that in his inaugural speech that he promised the people that he would enhance social services and ensure good governance that will deploy government services to create fair and equal opportunity for the people to make a living and enjoy life in a peaceful environment.
He added that his day’s actions were in keeping with those promised.
He affirmed that the welfare of workers would be his administration’s concern, adding that has demonstrated this by the provision of shelter to the low income earners.
Governor Ugwuanyi said “no meaningful progress will be made without adequate security” adding that this informed his presentation of the 18 operational vehicles to boost security in the state.
The governor urged the beneficiaries to reciprocate government gesture by putting the facilities to the purposes they were intended.
The governor commended the people of the state for their support and prayers and promised to serve the state with the fear of God.
The governor had earlier commissioned a secretariat complex built by the Association of Local Government Chairmen (ALGON) in the state at Independent Layout, Enugu. In a speech before the commissioning of the complex Governor Ugwuanyi noted that the building has proved commitment of the council chairmen to promote and ensure service delivery in the three tiers of government. He assured that his administration would continue to work harmoniously with the local government council chairmen.
In a remark, the Chairman of ALGON in the state, Prince Cornelius Nnaji informed the governor that building project was started by the past local government chairmen in the state in 2014. He added that the complex is meant to unite ALGON members, adding that members would be meeting in the complex to exchange ideas.
