2019: ‘Atiku,’ others dump PDP, ACCORD party in Akwa Ibom; Troop to APC

Former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chapter Chairman for Uyo, Mr. Okon Joshua has decamped to the All Progressives Congress (APC), ending months of speculations in the party.

Mr. Joshua, popularly called Atiku hitherto contested the PDP House of Assembly primaries in the 2015 general elections to represent Uyo State Constituency but, the aspiration’s aspiration was scuttled by the internal party interests of the powers that be.

The event, which took place at the Local Government party secretariat in Uyo on Wednesday, saw the former chapter chairman decamping with 3000 members to APC, citing fraud and oppression of members as some of his reasons.

‘Atiku,’ who held sway as Uyo PDP strongman, also explained that, he sees APC as a party of the progressives willing to make a difference hence, his decision to join the party. He assured that, he would help make APC an enviable party with the right momentum as the party to beat in the state come the 2019 elections.

According to him, “PDP is a fraudulent party that has oppressed the people for too long. I am joining APC because I find it a party of the progressives who are bent on making things work.

“I believe in APC and, I can assure that I will join hands with the leaders and stakeholders to deliver it in the state.

“Generally, it was a big blow leaving the PDP. Before I came here, the stakeholders were calling to dissuade me from leaving the PDP but I told them No! There was no going back”.

The event also witnessed a groundswell of Accord party members crossing into APC led by former Uyo chapter chairman, Mr. Nsidibe Silas Inieke alias White with about 2000 members.

Mr. Inieke said, he came to team up with APC as a party of the progressives to help develop the state adding that, with Accord party combined with APC, the party will be poised to take over the state in the next general elections.

APC Chapter Chairman in Uyo, Comrade Gabriel Ikpe while welcoming the new members into the party, expressed delight that, the decision by the new members to join APC was a step in the right direction.

Ikpe, who promised to accommodate them in the party said, he was happy APC would be stronger to take over the state in 2019.
“I am happy today and I believe that, decamping by the former chairmen to APC with their members is a bold step which means that, our party will be stronger come 2019”.

Some of the leaders and stakeholders of APC who graced the occasion were; Dr. Chris Ekong, Hon. Samuel J. Efanga, former Uyo Local Government Chairmen, Mr. Ekerete Ekpenyong and Mrs. Stella Effiom.

Others are; former Council Chairman of Ibesikpo –Asutan, Hon. Ekpe James, Elder Statesman, Obong Okokon Etuk, former House member for Uyo, Hon. Edwin Joseph, Elder Enefiok Ekefre and APC State Organizing Secretary, Mr. Eshiet.
