2023 YEMBA-USA Festival holds, electrifies New Jersey

The Weequahic Park in Newark, New Jersey, United States of America (USA) came alive on Saturday, July 1, 2023, with the celebration of the 10th Anniversary of the Annual YEMBA-USA Festival of the people of Cameroon in West Africa.

It was a spectacular display of the Bamileke Culture, with live music, indigenous drumming and dancing, parade of men dressed in traditional warriors’ attires, complete with swords and other symbols of masculinity, and women, teenagers and children’s performances, while the Yemba language, indigenous foods and awesome artworks were on lavish display.

Guests from far and near, including Dr. Akil Khalfani, Director of the Africana Institute of Essex County College, Newark City Councilman, Patrick Council and the President and members of the African Commission of the Newark City Council, all turned out in full force to soak in the exhilarating performances, the reenactment of the rich cultures that are not only being preserved and passed on to the coming generations, but that are being internationalized in a manner that makes the Mother Continent proud of its rich cultural heritage.

The event was hosted by Serges Demefack, President of Yemba-USA, a Cameroonian cultural group.
