
The gubernatorial candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) in Akwa Ibom State, Senator Bassey Akpan, has assured the people of the state that his administration will focus on human capital development, when he becomes governor from next year.
The Senator, who is the Chairman Senate Committee on Petroleum (Upstream), made this known when he appeared on a special edition of “Politik Matter” on Atlantic Fm station, Wednesday, September 28, 2022.
“Building roads is important, but if we don’t develop people, who will use the roads? We will ensure welfare for everybody”, he said.
OBA, as he is popularly called, disclosed that he has had experience of hardship, and will never allow hardship in the state.
“You cannot live without feeling the pulse of the people. Who has had the experience knows how it feels. I have been in servitude before, and I know what it means to stay two days without food,” he said.
He also assured that there will be no hunger in the state when he takes over. “During my administration, there will be no hunger in the state. Already, I’ve sent 481 Akwa Ibom children to universities, relieving their parents of the burden, isn’t that an aspect of developing people? This is a foundation for human capital development. This will open ways for the people to thrive”.
On his uniqueness over other gubernatorial contestants, OBA said: “The uniqueness of OBA is that he is a local man. Nobody among other contestants has my exposure, nobody has the experience I’ve had. Go and check the records.”
The Senator highlighted some if his achievements in both Gas and Petroleum (Upstream) Committees in the Senate where he served as chairman, including the review of gas flaring act as well as the Petroleum Industry Act which have gone a long way to better the lives of the people.
“I leave my effectiveness and performance in the court of people’s opinion. When I come as governor, our story will not remain the same again. We will build a viral State that every son and daughter of the state will be proud of,” he assured.
