Police arraign auto mechanic for converting client’s vehicles to personal use

Edo State Police Command has arraigned a 29-year-old mechanic, Shegun Moses before an Oredo Magistrate Court for allegedly stealing two commercial buses given to him for repair.

The Prosecutor, ASP Sylvester Omor, who said that the accused committed the offence in Jan. 31 2014, in Urubi Street in Benin added that the accused also vandalized the two buses belonging to one Rev. Okotie Joshua and sold them as spare parts.

He said that the complaint earlier gave the accused person the sum of N70, 000 for the repair of both buses adding that the buses were worth the sum of N1million.

The Prosecutor, said the accused committed an offence contrary to Section 393 (1) (2) (a) and punishable Under Section 390 (9) of the Criminal Code, Cap. 48 Vol. II Laws of the defunct Bendel of Nigeria 1976 as applicable in Edo.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the two-count charges against him even as his Counsel, Mr M.L. Iyeye pleaded passionately to the Magistrate, to grant his client bail in like terms.

The Magistrate, Mrs C.O. Nwoha, granted bail in sum of N100,000 in like sum and a surety who must be a house owner and adjourned the case till October 19 for hearing.
