Akpabio loses APC Senatorial ticket at Federal Court of Appeal, Abuja

Few hours after the Federal High Court in Uyo annulled the Governorship Primary result of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom State, the party’s flagbearer for the Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District seat Senator Godswill Akpabio has lost his ticket to DIG Udom Ekpoudom at the Court of Appeal in Abuja.

In it’s ruling in the DIG Ekpoudom Vs Godswill Akpabio case, the Appeal Court declared DIG Ekpoudom the authentic APC Senatorial candidate for Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District.

The Appeal Court also ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to upload Udom Ekpoudom’s candidature in seven days on their database.

A retired Deputy Inspector General of Police, Udom Ekpoudom approached the court after his victory at the APC Senatorial Primaries was denied by the party’s decision to conduct a fresh primary days after it’s Presidential Primaries.

Senator Akpabio, who contested the APC Presidential Primaries returned to win the re-conducted Primaries, a process that was upheld by the Federal High Court.

Dissatisfied with the Federal High Court Judgement, DIG Ekpoudom approached the Appellate court and has with the ruling today November 14, 2022 sacked the immediate past Minister of Niger Delta to claim the Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District ticket for the 2023 elections.
