Nigerians in USA celebrate independence with Parade in New York today, Saturday, October 4, 2025 (See pictures)

All is set for the celebration of Nigeria’s 65th Independence in New York, the United States of America (USA), today, October 4, 2025, with a bigger and better Nigerian Independence Day Parade.

Nigeria became independent on October 1, 1960 but the Parade in New York, which usually takes the form of a carnival, will hold today, from 10:00 AM (EST) beginning on East 38th Street and Madison Avenue and proceeding south on Madison Avenue to East 24th Street.

The parade will feature music, dancing, and vibrant cultural displays. Floats from different groups, including Nigerians in Diaspora Organization (NIDO) state chapters, will be on display, with music blaring from different DJs, banners of organizations and businesses displayed for all to see, and participants, beautifully dressed, mostly in Nigerian colors riding on the floats.

The parade, which is being organized by the Organization for the Advancement of Nigerians (OAN) Inc.. in partnership with other Nigerian Organizations, including the New York Chapter of Akwa Ibom State Association of Nigeria USA, as well as Faith-Based groups and Churches, will be a celebration of Nigerian culture with live music, drumming, dancing, and a lively atmosphere.

Speeches will be made by different dignitaries, including by the Consul General (CG), Consulate General of Nigeria in New York, Ambassador Abubakar Jidda, and different vendors, selling Nigerian foods and other delicacies will also be on ground to minister to the participants that will be mostly Nigerians, as well as friends and associates of the country from different parts of the world.

The venue of the Parade is already agog with activities waiting for the festivities to begin in full swing with its many colors and sounds.

Nigerian-American media celebrity, political commentator, public affairs academic, and television personality,  Wendy Osefo will be the celebrity Grand Marshal for the 2025 Parade, and the New Jersey chapter of NIDO wants every one to watch out for its float, which the President, Dr. Adeola Popoola, insists, will be the best!
