Super Eagles Captain, William Troost-Ekong, announces retirement from international football

Super Eagles Captain, William Troost-Ekong, has announced his retirement from international football after a long and successful career with Nigeria.

The defender shared the news on social media on 4 December, saying he was “honoured, grateful, forever a Super Eagle.” He added that playing for Nigeria had been the greatest privilege of his life and that although his journey with the team had ended, he would continue to support the Super Eagles.

Troost-Ekong made 83 appearances for Nigeria, winning three medals and featuring in five major tournaments, including the Africa Cup of Nations and the FIFA World Cup. He was widely respected for his leadership, commitment and strong presence in defence.

His retirement marks the end of an era for the national team, where he served as a key figure for nearly a decade. As he steps away from international duty, fans and teammates have been celebrating his contributions and wishing him well in the next chapter of his career.
