Former Nigerian presidential candidate Peter Obi has congratulated the Super Eagles for winning the bronze medal at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Taking to social media on Saturday, January 17, 2026, Obi wrote:
“Congratulations to our Super Eagles on securing the third-place medal at AFCON.
Thank you for representing the Nigerian people. You fought with character, represented Nigeria with honour, and reminded us that progress is built through perseverance.
The nation is proud of you. May this result be a strong foundation for even greater victories ahead.
Come home as the victors that you are, and continue to soar high our dearest Super Eagles.
Congratulations @ng_supereagles.

The Super Eagles claimed the bronze medal on Saturday night after defeating Egypt 4–2 on penalties in Casablanca, Morocco. The match ended 0–0 after 90 minutes, before Nigeria triumphed in the shoot-out, the same scoreline by which they were eliminated by hosts Morocco in the semi-final.
Goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali was the hero of the night, saving two penalties from Egypt captain Mohamed Salah and Omar Marmoush. Nwabali’s performance earned him the Man of the Match award, confirming Nigeria’s ninth bronze medal in AFCON history.
Fisayo Dele-Bashiru missed Nigeria’s opening penalty, but Akor Adams, Moses Simon, Alex Iwobi, and Ademola Lookman all converted their kicks, with Lookman sealing the victory with the final strike.
Nigeria finished the tournament with 14 goals scored and four conceded, while Egypt scored nine goals and conceded four. Nigeria now have three AFCON titles, five silver medals, and nine bronze medals in their history.
The AFCON final between hosts Morocco and Senegal will take place in Rabat, after which Nigeria will receive their bronze medals in the official award ceremony.
