The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has congratulated the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Achebe, on his 85th birthday anniversary, praising his immense contributions to nation building.
The congratulatory message is contained in a statement issued on Wednesday in Enugu by the National Publicity Secretary of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Ezechi Chukwu.
According to the statement, Ohanaeze joined millions of admirers, sons and daughters of Alaigbo, friends of the Onitsha Kingdom and well-wishers across the globe in celebrating the royal father.
The organisation noted that the reign of Achebe, also known as Agbogidi, had brought honour not only to the ancient Onitsha Kingdom but also to the entire Igbo nation and Nigeria.
Ohanaeze commended the traditional ruler for his commitment to peace, justice, equity, cultural renaissance, national unity and the advancement of the Igbo cause.
It stated that through his exemplary leadership, intellectual depth and fatherly guidance, the Achebe had remained a shining light and moral compass for generations.
The organisation further praised his service in both corporate and traditional institutions, as well as his advocacy for good governance and societal harmony.
The statement quoted the President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Azuta Mbata, commending the royal father for his consistent support and encouragement to the organisation over the years.
Mbata described the Obi of Onitsha as “one of the foremost pillars of the Igbo nation” whose wisdom, patriotism and unwavering support for Ohanaeze Ndigbo had continued to strengthen the collective resolve towards the unity, progress and dignity of Ndigbo.
He added that the organisation remained grateful for the monarch’s leadership and invaluable contributions to the Nigerian federation.
Ohanaeze prayed for more fruitful years for the monarch in good health, wisdom, peace and strength as he continued to serve humanity and uphold the cherished values of the people.
