Flamingos make history as Nigeria win first FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup

Nigeria’s Flamingos have made history by winning their first FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup title following a 2-1 victory over Japan in Saturday’s final in Morocco.

The Nigerian team put up a strong performance, with Awawu Bashiru and Oluebube Umejiaku scoring the goals that secured the historic triumph.

The Flamingos took the lead shortly before half-time when Bashiru’s long-range effort found the back of the net after a mistake by the Japanese goalkeeper.

Nigeria doubled their advantage just two minutes into the second half, with Umejiaku scoring in the 47th minute to give the team a comfortable 2-0 lead.

Japan refused to give up and pulled one goal back in the 80th minute through Fuki Ito, setting up an exciting finish.

However, Nigeria remained firm at the back and held on to their lead until the final whistle to claim the trophy.

The Flamingos’ journey to the final was not without challenges. They started the tournament with a 2-1 defeat to Poland but recovered with victories over Puerto Rico, defending champions North Korea, Mexico, Venezuela and Brazil.

In the semi-final, Nigeria defeated Brazil 3-1, with Queen Joseph and Bashiru playing key roles in securing the victory and the country’s first-ever place in the final.

Japan booked their place in the final after overcoming North Korea in a dramatic semi-final match that went into a penalty shootout.

The victory is a major milestone for Nigerian women’s football, as the Flamingos have finally secured their first FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup crown.
