Former Super Eagles striker Obafemi Martins believes Seyi Tinubu could play a key role in changing the face of Nigerian football.
Martins made the statement on Monday while speaking with former Super Eagles captain John Obi Mikel on The Obi One Podcast.
The 41-year-old was asked about the problems affecting Nigerian football, especially the recent crisis in the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
Martins said poor administration has been a major issue in Nigerian football for many years, including during his time as a player.
He called for a young person who understands football and the system to help bring about change, before naming Seyi Tinubu.
“We just need someone that can help. Someone young that understands the game, that understands the system, that can help us,” Martins said.
He added: “I think Seyi Tinubu can do that too. He understands, he’s young, and he understands what Nigerian people want. I think he can change that.”
Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Tinubu, has not publicly shown any interest in contesting for a position in the NFF.
Martins’ comments come at a time of major changes in Nigerian football administration.
NFF president Ibrahim Gusau resigned last week, while the federation’s general secretary, Mohammed Sanusi, also left his position.
The resignations came after President Tinubu ordered a “comprehensive reform” of Nigerian football following repeated failures to qualify for major regional, continental and world tournaments.
