Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle is reportedly frustrated by the delay in the signing of his proposed new contract, which could see his monthly salary rise from $50,000 to $75,000.
Reports indicate that the Franco-Malian tactician wants the contract negotiations completed before Nigeria’s crucial 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying matches against Tanzania in November.
Nigeria will face Tanzania in Uyo on November 11 before travelling for the return leg on November 15, 2026.
The Super Eagles will be hoping to bounce back from their disappointing 3-0 defeat to Guinea-Bissau as they look to strengthen their chances of qualifying for the tournament.
According to reports, Chelle is unhappy that the proposed deal has not been officially concluded despite an alleged agreement with Nigerian football authorities.
The delay is said to be connected to the resignation of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) executive committee last month, which reportedly disrupted the process.
However, the NFF and the National Sports Commission (NSC) are said to have met and agreed on an improved salary package for the former Mali coach.
The proposed deal would increase Chelle’s monthly earnings by $25,000, bringing his salary to $75,000.
Despite the reported agreement, the new contract is yet to be formally signed.
With the November fixtures approaching, resolving the situation could provide greater certainty for Chelle as he prepares the Super Eagles for the decisive AFCON qualifying matches.
Also, the reported January 2026 expiry date of Chelle’s current contract appears inconsistent with the November 2026 fixtures and may require clarification.
