Borno State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has Monday, endorsed the national chairmanship of the former Borno state Governor, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, and strongly called on its people to work assiduously to ensure total victory come 2019.
The state secretary of the Party Alhaji Usman Mahdi Badari, while briefing Journalists at the Forshams Hall in Maiduguri, the state capital, said, the State Party Executives and Local Government Party Chairmen in the 27 councils, and indeed the entire Party Stalwarts in the state unanimously in support and endorsed the appointment of Sheriff as the National Leader of their great party (PDP).
The appointment of Sheriff by the National Working Committee of the party has generated a lot of controversies and criticisms from different quarters as some chieftains of the party insist that the former governor is not fit for the job of rejuvenating for victory come 2019.
He said that the appointment of Sheriff by the National Caucus of the party did not come to them as a surprise considering his political pedigree, adding that Sheriff was the first governor to be re-elected for a second term in the history of Borno and a three-time senator and that, members of the PDP in the state are confident that the emergence of Sheriff will further reunite members and bring sanity into the party.
On the criticisms by some individuals like the Governor of Kano state, Alhaji Umar Ganduje, Mr. Fani Femi Kayode among others that Sheriff is not fit for the position, the Secretary said, he will not join issues with some people, as everybody is entitle to his/her opinion, insisting that, those against Sheriff’s appointment as the national Chairman of the PDP, ‘were doing it out of fear or for their selfish interest.’
Badari said: “We want to use this medium to appeal to all and sundry to join hands and rebuild our great party, we also wish to express our good intention in full support of the appointment of Senator Ali Modu Sheriff as our National Chairman”.
The briefing was well attended by many PDP stalwarts, party chairmen and their secretaries from the Local Government and ward levels.
