Dogara empowers 750 women, youths in Gombe

No fewer than 750 women and youths in Dadin-Kowa, Yamaltu-Deba Local Government Area of Gombe State are to benefit from an empowerment programme of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Honourable Yakubu Dogara.

Flagging-off the programme at the Federal College of Horticulture, Dadin-Kowa, the Speaker, who was represented by the member representing Tafawa Balewa State Constituency in the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Alhaji Aminu Tukur, urged the trainees to make good use of the opportunity to contribute positively to the development of the country.

The beneficiaries will be trained on agricultural production and practices under the Speaker’s zonal intervention projects.

Honourable Dogara said the programme was conceived to key into the federal government’s initiative to diversify the economy through the agricultural sector.

Provost of the Federal College of Horticulture, Professor Fatima Sawa, called on the participants to put into practice the knowledge gathered during the five day training.

Professor Fatima, who commended the Speaker for finding the College worthy of the programme urged other youth in the country to imbibe farming and other agricultural practices and explained that the agricultural sector is the main sector that will bring the country out of the economic recession.

In his remark, the Emir of Yamaltu, DSP Hassan Jonga, who was represented at the occasion by the District Head of Hina, urged the state government to amend laws on grazing reserve to end the excessive farmers and herdsmen clashes.
