The Senate Minority Leader, Sen. Enyinnaya Abaribe, Tuesday began a two-day tour of constituency projects he reportedly attracted to his Abia South Senatorial District.
Speaking to newsmen during the exercise in Orhuru Village, Obingwa Local Government Area, Abaribe promised that “there will be more interventions” to improve the wellbeing of his constituents.
He said the constituency projects were initiated to meet the needs of his constituents in different sectors of the economy.
“We insist on doing roads with drains and the roads must have stonebase. Once asphalted, it enjoys a 20-year lifespan.
“We are also interested in helping small business owners with equipment and training for their businesses to improve in output.
“We have also engaged in facilitating the provision of electricity for communities to make life easy for the people and industries in the area to enable them to improve in productivity.
“We will at all times continue to help small and medium-scale enterprises to thrive because they make up the most important part of the nation’s economy.
“The bedrock of everything we do is education.
“This is the reason for the setting up of computer laboratories in schools and renovation of schools in the constituency,” Abaribe said.
According to the Peoples Democratic Party stalwart, for a nation to develope, it is pertinent to have a focused leadership that has character, competence and courage.
“This would help the leadership to be credible, understand policies and programmes that can work and be intentional about protecting the interest of the people.
He further said that there were zonal intervention projects in the budget being executed through several ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs).
“So what we do is to ensure that they are executed.
“If you are given a position of authority you should live up to expectation.
“So, if there is a shortfall, I follow up with visits to the MDAs involved,” he said.
Abaribe said he would keep a close tab on the contractors handling the constituency projects to ensure they were completed before the end of the dry season.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the projects included the Umuohia-Abala-Umuotu Road, Umuagu-Umuadiole Road, Abaiyi-Orhuru Road and Orhuru Primary School undergoing renovation.
Others were Akalanna Road, Eugene Street, Ogwo Road and Cameron Barracks’ Primary School, also undergoing renovation, among others.
