A motion to mandate the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports to take over the management and maintenance of Afuze Games Village in Owan East local government area of Edo state is been conceived.
The member representing Owan federal constituency at the House of Representatives, Honorable Parry Iriase who disclosed this at the inauguration of the Afuse mini stadium built by Honorable Folly Ogedengbe said the motion will also be moved at the Senate.
While recalling what he described as ‘abysmal’ performance of the Nigerian contingent to the Rio Olympic games in Brazil said, the Afuze Games Village if put to use could serve as both training and camp facilities for the nation’s athletes.
He commended the Majority leader and member representing Owan east constituency at the state assembly for building such an edifice which he added will help to improve on the standard of sporting activities both at the community level and state in general.
The facilitator of the Afuze mini stadium, Honorable Ogedengbe, said the idea behind the project was to take the youths out of the streets and engage them in meaningful activities.
He said ” It is also gratifying to inform you all, that when youths have something doing their involvement in anti- social vices such as cultism, robbery, rape, kidnapping etc will be reduced to its barest minimum if not totally eradicated.”
In his goodwill message at the occasion, Honorable Asien Victor,the member representing Owan west also described the initiative as laudable and sued for its sustainability.
There was a novelty match between Owan United and Church of God Mission youth team as part of activities to end the HRH (Dr) J A Ogedengbe 11, OON football competition.
