The Ondo State House of Assembly has confirmed receipt of a letter from Gov. Lucky Aiyedatiwa requesting the screening of Dr Olayide Adelami, as nominee for the Deputy Governor position.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the demise of Gov. Rotimi Akeredolu on Dec. 27 led to Aiyedatiwa, the former Deputy Governor, becoming governor.
The position of Deputy Governor thus became vacant.
A statement made available to journalists on Wednesday in Akure by Mr. Olatunji Oshati, the Chairman, House Committee on Information, said that the governor’s letter was received by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Olamide Oladiji.
The statement said that the governor’s request was in line with the provision of Section 191(3) B and C of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended.
It said that Adelami, who hails from Owo in Owo Local Government Area of the state, is expected to appear before the House on Thursday for screening.
NAN reports that the deputy governor nominee was a former Deputy Clerk of the National Assembly until his retirement in April 2018.
He was also a governorship aspirant and contested in the All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries in 2020 against the late Gov. Rotimi Akeredolu.
In a related development, Governor Aiyedatiwa, has appointed the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) and Chief of Protocol (COP).
The appointment was announced by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Ebenezer Adeniyan on Wednesday in Akure.
According to the statement, Aiyedatiwa approved the appointment of Tayo Oluwatuyi as the Secretary to the State Government.
Mr. Abayomi Olasanya was appointed as the Chief of Protocol and the statement stressed that both appointments are with immediate effect.
