A Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governorship aspirant in Akwa Ibom State, Mr. James Iniama has insisted that, he is the people’s choice for the governorship of the State in 2023.
Iniama, was reacting to the endorsement of Commissioner for Lands and Water Resources, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno by Governor Udom Emmanuel as his successor a couple of weeks ago on his arrival from Abuja at Victor Attah Int’l airport saying that, he was not aware there was an anointing service to anoint a successor by the governor.
He said, his aspiration to run for the office of the governor of Akwa Ibom State in 2023, came as a yearning of the people for him to represent them.
”I have an aspiration born out of the collective desire of majority of the people of Akwa Ibom, that I should represent them as their governor in 2023.
”So, I am not aware of any anointing service that was organized by the governor but, my aspiration as governor is paramount to any anointing. And I thank president Muhammadu Buhari for signing the Electoral Act and we are looking up to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which has published the timetable for elections and all of you.
”I, therefore, urge the people most especially, the delegates to do their best to ensure that, they vote for the man who has the interest of the State at heart.
”This is the time for us to vote for people with integrity and learn to reject buying of votes which would not solve your problems,” Mr. Iniama stated.
He further said that, he would run a government in which people will be given equal opportunity based on their skills and competence.
According to him, ”I come from the same social class with the people; I grew up in the rural community and I know how they feel.
”When I become the governor, I will develop skills and competences, promote the establishment of micro – finance institutions and cooperative societies to provide access to the people to obtain facilities for businesses to address the issue of poverty.
”In this way, we will be able to take development to the rural communities in addition to the provision of social amenities to make life better and stable”.
It is recalled that, Mr. James Iniama, a surveyor and estate valuer by profession contested for governorship in 2007, under the Action Congress party platform and became its flag-bearer.
Currently, he is one of the most credible governorship contenders in PDP, whose slogan ”In His Steps” connotes, working with God to reposition Akwa Ibom come 2023.
