Akwa Ibom Assembly gets Deputy Speaker; Speaker pledges cooperation with Executive – Dedicates new leadership to God

Member representing Okobo State constituency in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Hon. Felicia Bassey has emerged the new Deputy Speaker.

Her election which took place during the House session at the Assembly complex, Udo-Udoma Avenue in Uyo Tuesday, followed the nullification of the election of former Deputy Speaker, Hon. Effiong Bassey, the representative of Oron State constituency by the Appeal Court in Abuja recently.

Hon. Felicia Bassey was elected unopposed following her nomination by Hon. Friday Iwok representing Abak State constituency which was supported by Hon. Idongesit Ituen of Itu State constituency.
She was formerly Chairman, Okobo Local Government Area from 2013 to 2015 before joining the House of Assembly race this year.
In a related development, Speaker, Rt. (Hon.) Onofiok Luke, has pledged the readiness of the 6th assembly to partner with the Governor Udom Emmanuel administration for the implementation of its development blue-print for the state.

He made the declaration during the dedication service of the new leadership of the House at the House of Assembly Chapel before the election of his Deputy on Tuesday.

“We will cooperate with the executive to bring democratic dividends to Akwa Ibom people,” he said, stressing the need for the various arms of government to come together towards the achievement of the development goal the government has set to achieve.

Hon. Luke, who described his new position as, “The continuation of Hon. Aniekan Uko’s administration,” demonstrated his resolve to maintain the ideals of deposed Speaker, Mr. Aniekan Uko by announcing the re-appointment of the ousted Speaker’s Aide on religious matters as his Special Assistant.

Rev. Ntia Ntia, who preached at the dedication service commendeded the Speaker and members of the House of Assembly for placing God first in their affairs by dedicating the House’ leadership to God.

Rev. Ntia, who is the General Overseer of Full Life Christian Centre, Uyo emphasized the importance of dedication explaining that, by the action of the new leadership of the House under the watch of Hon. Onofiok Luke, the omnipotence of God has been acknowledged for good by the lawmakers.

Ntia charged the Speaker to continue to uphold his faith in God alone. Highpoint of the service was special prayers by the men of God for the Speaker, his wife and members of the sixth assembly.

Others who attended the prayer meeting were: President, Legislators Wives Association, LEWA, Dr. (Mrs.) Uduak Luke, the wife of the Full Life pastor, Mrs Ukamaka Ntia, some members of the 6th assembly, former Deputy Leader of the House, Dr. (Mrs.) Ekaette Ebong Okon, former lawmaker representing Uruan State Constituency, Barr. Usenobong Akpabio, Hon. Efefiong Antigha and, Special Assistant to the Governor on Political Affairs, Barr. Ini Ememobong.
